A VIBRANT NEW SPACE TO WORK & VISIT
A NEW ERA
Parc Dewi Sant is a 38 acre estate in the heart of Carmarthen. The estate offers multi-purpose space spread across 22 buildings. The estate will be transformed into a business hub, with a focus on health, leisure and education services. Businesses operating in the park will be carefully curated with the goal for the occupiers to all complement each other. Creating a new vibrant place to work and visit.
THE HISTORY OF PARC DEWI SANT
It was planned as the Asylum for Cardigan, Carmarthen, Glamorgan & Pembroke, and building work started in 1863. It was completed to a reduced plan and opened as the Carmarthenshire, Cardigan and Pembrokeshire County Asylum in 1865 with 212 places.
1860
1880
The chapel was constucted between 1884-1889. Labour was given free by the asylum staff and patients. There was no outside contractor, and only the supervising mason and carpenter were paid. The chapel opened on 1 December 1888.
1970
The hospital expanded to more than 900 beds. 10 years later, the main buildings were given a Grade II listing as "an architectural ensemble of note, incorporating the latest ideas on hospital planning and construction".
2000
In early 2000s the hospital planned to close and by 2003, all patients had been relocated. Carmarthen County Council purchased the site in 2003 to prevent usage being dictated by the national government.
2024
Parc Dewi Sant was purchased from Carmarthen County Council with plans to create a vibrant new business hub, focusing on the health, leisure and education sector.
